41% of Weekend Calls to Home Service Businesses Go Unanswered: The Saturday Problem

ServiceTitan figures put unanswered weekend calls at 41% for home services, vs 18% on weekdays. See how many of your missed calls land on weekends.

By Adam Brewer, founder of Local Voice. Figures checked October 10, 2026.

41% of weekend calls to home service businesses go unanswered, against 18% on weekdays, according to figures ServiceTitan published in 2023. ServiceTitan didn't publish the sample or the period behind them.

Local Voice combined those miss rates with BrightLocal's 2019 call-timing data, two studies of different businesses at different times. For a typical business, weekends bring 6% of calls but about 13% of missed calls. For a shop with a locksmith's weekend pattern, weekends hold about half of all missed calls.

Every figure was checked at its source on October 10, 2026. Derived figures are marked as Local Voice calculations, with the math shown in the methodology.

Key findings

18% of home services calls go unanswered on weekdays and 41% on weekends, according to figures ServiceTitan published in 2023.

A weekend call to a home service business is about 2.3 times as likely to go unanswered as a weekday call (Local Voice calculation from ServiceTitan's 2023 figures).

The typical local business got 94% of its Google listing calls Monday to Friday in BrightLocal's 2019 study of 45,264 listings.

In a Local Voice model combining ServiceTitan 2023 and BrightLocal 2019 data, weekends are 6% of a typical business's calls but about 13% of its missed calls.

Locksmiths got 31% of their Google listing calls on weekends (BrightLocal, 2019). With that pattern, weekends hold about half of all missed calls in the Local Voice model.

Matching the 18% weekday miss rate on weekends would cut total missed calls by about 7% for a typical business. For a locksmith pattern, the cut is 28% (Local Voice model of ServiceTitan 2023 and BrightLocal 2019 data).

How many weekend calls to home service businesses go unanswered?

About 4 in 10. ServiceTitan published the figures in an August 18, 2023 webinar recap. Jeff Martin, its Solutions Engineer for Scheduling Pro, said 18% of home services calls go unanswered on weekdays and 41% on weekends.

By those numbers, a weekend call is about 2.3 times as likely to go unanswered as a weekday call. That's 41% ÷ 18%, a Local Voice calculation.

Where the 41% comes from

The recap calls the figures "recent data" and doesn't name a study. It gives no sample size or time period. It also doesn't define "unanswered." A second ServiceTitan speaker, Graham Jones, put weekends at "over 40%" and called it abandonment. Invoca's March 2025 statistics page lists the same 18% and 41% with "(Source: Invoca)" and no link. We cite the figures as ServiceTitan-reported and treat them as a rough benchmark.

The Saturday problem: weekends carry more than their share of missed calls

For a typical business, weekends bring 6% of calls and about 13% of missed calls. Local Voice built that model from two datasets. They measured different businesses at different times, so read the result as a model.

The miss rates come from ServiceTitan's 2023 figures for home services. The call timing comes from BrightLocal's 2019 study of 45,264 Google listings, tracked from September 2017 to December 2018 in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Australia.

BrightLocal found the typical local business got 94% of its Google listing calls Monday to Friday. That leaves about 6% for weekends. Locksmiths, who handle a lot of emergency work, got 31% of their calls on weekends.

Apply 18% to the weekday calls and 41% to the weekend calls. In the locksmith pattern, that puts about half of all missed calls on weekends, from 31% of calls.

The overall miss rate moves too. The typical pattern misses about 19% of all calls. The locksmith pattern misses about 25%, because more of its calls land on the days with the worst answer rate.

Your trade may sit on either side of 6%. ServiceTitan's June 2026 analysis of residential HVAC shops on its platform found weekend calls peaked at 4.9% of inbound calls in August 2025. They fell to 2.95% in October. Emergency trades can run far higher, like the locksmiths.

How many of your missed calls come on weekends?

It depends on your weekend share of calls. In the Local Voice model, a business with 10% of its calls on weekends gets about 20% of its missed calls there. At 20% of calls, it's about 36%.

At HVAC's August peak of 4.9%, weekends hold about 11% of missed calls. ServiceTitan counted all inbound calls, while BrightLocal counted only calls from Google listings, so treat the HVAC row as a rough comparison.

Model: ServiceTitan (2023) home services miss rates of 18% on weekdays and 41% on weekends. 6% row: BrightLocal (2019) typical local business. 31% row: BrightLocal (2019) locksmiths. 4.9% row: ServiceTitan (2026) residential HVAC shops, August 2025 peak. 4.9% counts all inbound calls, not Google listing calls. Last column: the cut in total missed calls if weekend calls went unanswered at the 18% weekday rate.

To find your row, pull 30 days of calls from your phone system and count the ones that came Saturday or Sunday. Divide by your total calls.

Weekend share of missed calls = (weekend calls × 41%) ÷ (weekday calls × 18% + weekend calls × 41%)

Example. Use your own numbers.
1.

A shop gets 200 calls a month. 20 come on weekends (10%).

2.

180 weekday calls × 18% = 32 missed (32.4, rounded).

3.

20 weekend calls × 41% = 8 missed (8.2, rounded).

4.

8 ÷ 40 total missed = 20% of missed calls on weekends, from 10% of calls.

5.

If weekends matched the weekday rate: 20 × 18% = 4 missed (3.6, rounded). That's 4 fewer missed calls a month.

Swap in your own miss rates once you have them. Most phone systems and call-tracking tools report unanswered calls by day.

What happens to a missed weekend call?

Most likely, nobody calls back. Quo's August 2026 analysis of 16.7 million missed calls found 69% got no callback within 48 hours. Quo added that evening and weekend calls "tend to contribute heavily" to unreturned missed calls, without giving a number.

Combine the two and, out of 100 weekend calls, 41 go unanswered and about 28 of those callers get no callback within 48 hours. That's 100 × 41% × 69%, a Local Voice calculation. The two studies measured different businesses at different times, and Quo didn't report home services on its own.

Weekend emergency calls can also bill higher. Angi's 2026 emergency plumber guide puts weekend emergency rates at $80 to $400 an hour, against $40 to $200 for a standard plumber. For the value of a missed call by job type, see what each missed call costs, by trade.

What to do this week

Count your weekend calls. Pull 30 days from your carrier, VoIP dashboard or call-tracking tool. Note how many came Saturday or Sunday and how many of those rang out.

Find your row in Table 1. In the model, weekends that bring more than 15% of your calls hold more than a quarter of your missed calls.

Call back fast. CallRail's 2025 survey of 1,000 U.S. consumers found 21% call another business right away when nobody answers. A Monday callback only reaches the people who waited.

Cover the weekend. A weekend on-call rotation costs nothing but someone's Saturday. An answering service or AI agent costs money and picks up every time. Local Voice sells AI phone agents, so read this tip with that in mind.

Recount in 30 days. Once coverage is in place, rerun the count and check whether weekends still hold more than their share of misses.

Frequently asked questions

What percentage of weekend calls go unanswered?

41% of home services calls go unanswered on weekends, against 18% on weekdays, according to figures ServiceTitan published in 2023. A ServiceTitan solutions engineer presented them in a webinar as recent data. ServiceTitan didn't publish the sample size or the time period, so treat 41% as a rough benchmark and check your own call log.

Are weekend calls more likely to be missed than weekday calls?

Yes, by a wide margin. ServiceTitan's 2023 figures put the weekend miss rate for home services at 41% and the weekday rate at 18%. That makes a weekend call about 2.3 times as likely to go unanswered, a Local Voice calculation. Your own gap may differ, so compare a month of weekend and weekday calls.

What share of calls come in on weekends?

About 6% for the typical local business (Local Voice calculation from BrightLocal's 94% weekday share). BrightLocal's 2019 study of 45,264 Google listings found 94% of listing calls came Monday to Friday. Locksmiths got 31% on weekends. For residential HVAC shops, ServiceTitan's 2025 data put weekends at 4.9% of inbound calls in August, the peak, and 2.95% in October.

How many of my missed calls happen on weekends?

More than your weekend share of calls suggests. In a Local Voice model using ServiceTitan's 2023 miss rates, a business with 6% of its calls on weekends gets about 13% of its missed calls there. At 20% of calls, weekends hold about 36% of misses. At a locksmith's 31%, they hold about half.

Do missed weekend callers get a callback?

Most don't. Quo's August 2026 analysis of 16.7 million missed calls found 69% got no callback within 48 hours, and Quo said evening and weekend calls contribute heavily to that. Combined with ServiceTitan's 41% weekend miss rate, about 28 of every 100 weekend callers get no callback within 48 hours (Local Voice calculation).

Methodology

Model

Overall miss rate = weekday share of calls × 18% + weekend share of calls × 41%. Weekend share of missed calls = (weekend share × 41%) ÷ overall miss rate. Fewer misses if weekends matched weekdays = (overall miss rate minus 18%) ÷ overall miss rate. Weekend callers never called back per 100 weekend calls = 100 × 41% × 69%.

Miss rates

18% on weekdays and 41% on weekends for home services calls, from ServiceTitan's August 18, 2023 recap of a Scheduling Pro Live Services webinar. Jeff Martin, ServiceTitan's Solutions Engineer for Scheduling Pro, presented them as "recent data." The recap doesn't name a study, a sample, a period or a definition of unanswered. In the same recap, Graham Jones, Senior Manager of Scheduling Pro Live Services, gave "18% average abandonment during the week and over 40% on weekends."

Who reports the 41%

Invoca's "40+ Statistics Home Services Marketers Need to Know in 2025" (Owen Ray, March 4, 2025) lists the same 18% and 41% with "(Source: Invoca)," no link and no method. ServiceTitan's recap is the earlier of the two pages, and it credits Invoca only for a separate claim about how consumers seek home services. We could not find an original study from either company, so we cite the figures as ServiceTitan-reported.

Call timing

BrightLocal's Google My Business Insights Study (Rosie Murphy, July 15, 2019): 45,264 listings in 36 industries, September 2017 to December 2018, in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Australia. BrightLocal reports medians. It counted calls placed by tapping the Google listing, so other calls aren't included. The typical local business got 94% of listing calls Monday to Friday. The 6% weekend share is 100% minus 94%, a Local Voice calculation. Locksmiths got 31% on weekends and restaurants 32%.

HVAC call timing

ServiceTitan's State of the Trades page "When Summer HVAC Demand Spikes, After-Hours Calls Do Too" (June 3, 2026). It analyzed anonymized inbound call records from residential HVAC customers who share data, January to December 2025. The cohort is same-store and tenant-weighted, and ServiceTitan says it is not nationally representative. No sample size is given. Weekend calls peaked at 4.9% of inbound calls in August and fell to 2.95% in October.

Combining studies

The model applies 2023 home services miss rates to call timing measured across local businesses and locksmiths in 2017 and 2018, and across HVAC shops in 2025. The datasets measured different businesses, in different countries, at different times. The model also assumes one flat miss rate for all weekday calls and one for all weekend calls. Read the results as a model of the pattern.

Callbacks

69% of missed calls got no callback within 48 hours in Quo's analysis of 16.7 million missed calls logged by Quo customers over three months, published August 20, 2026. Quo counted any outbound call to the caller's number within 48 hours as a callback. Quo didn't report home services separately or give weekend figures.

Rounding

Shares are computed at full precision and rounded half up to whole percents. Missed calls per 100 are rounded to one decimal. The 2.3 ratio is 41 ÷ 18 = 2.28, rounded. The worked example rounds each step to whole calls, as shown, so you can check it by hand.
